Take the Survey: E-Bikes, E-Scooters, and Pelotons in Arcadia

As potential regulations for electric bikes and scooters, and groups of cyclists (pelotons) are considered, we need input from the people who use our streets every day! Whether you use these modes of travel or not, your input will ensure a wide range of perspectives are considered.

Help shape the future of travel in Arcadia and take our short survey at ArcadiaCA.gov/WheelTalk by July 31^st. The survey takes less than two minutes to complete and will help guide local regulations being considered this summer.

Living with Wildlife in Arcadia

Arcadia’s picturesque foothills are home to a range of wildlife that often visit the surrounding neighborhoods. Stay alert and follow best practices should you have wildlife encounters, which may include bears, coyotes, peacocks, and mountain lions.

Bears – Often appearing in neighborhoods in search of food and water, bears have keen noses and can smell from miles away. Arcadia residents can purchase a 95-gallon bear resistant cart online to keep wildlife from digging into their waste. Waste Management offers bear carts for a one-time purchase fee, and the bear cart serves as a replacement for the existing can(s) being used, with no ongoing cost for the additional service: ArcadiaCA.gov/TrashandRecycling.

In the event of immediate danger from any wildlife, call the Arcadia Police Department at (626) 574-5121 or 9-1-1 in an emergency. Property damage, habituated bears, or other encounters should be reported to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, using their incident reporting tool as well as to Arcadia’s Bear Reporting System.

Coyotes – Behavior changes with the seasons with pups being more active in the summer as they learn to hunt. Always haze a coyote when you see one (be loud, get big, wave your arms), supervise pets in the yard, and keep them on a short leash. Secure food sources including fallen fruit and outdoor pet food. Report concerns to the Neighborhood Coyote Hotline at (626) 278-8039 (for Arcadia residents) or email coyotes@sgvcog.org.

Peafowl – Treat peacocks like any other bird, DO NOT feed them. Doing so is prohibited on private and public property and carries a fine of up to $1,000. Peafowl in Arcadia provides tips on how to discourage peafowl from gathering on your property as well as landscaping ideas to deter them from your garden.

Mountain Lions – While mountain lion sightings in Arcadia are rare, recent reports in Pasadena and Santa Monica have grabbed regional attention. Mountain lions have an important role in maintaining a healthy and balanced ecosystem.  However, conflicts can occur when they hunt near homes, livestock, or pets. They are most active at dawn and at dusk, nighttime hours, and in cooler months. Reduce attractants by removing dense vegetation, using outdoor lighting, and keeping pets indoors at night. If you encounter one, don’t run—maintain eye contact, back away slowly, make noise, and appear larger. Report sightings to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife or contact CityManager@ArcadiaCA.gov or (626) 574-540. Call 9‑1‑1 if in immediate danger.

Improving Traffic Safety for Pedestrians and Drivers

To improve safety for pedestrians and drivers, certain intersections have been improved with the addition of No Right Turn on Red Arrow lights. This includes No Right Turn on Red Arrows and Flashing Yellow Arrows. Unlike a solid red light, which allows drivers to turn right when it’s safe, a red arrow means no right turns are permitted. These arrows prevent right turns when it is unsafe, especially for pedestrians.  Flashing Yellow Arrows give motorists the option to make a left turn after yielding to oncoming traffic. The additional red arrows are also adaptive, only activating under specific conditions, like when pedestrians press the button or during busy travel times.

Be Aware of Fraudulent Emails Impersonating City Employees

The Development Services Department is aware of phishing emails targeting Arcadia customers. Scammers are impersonating City employees, claiming permit fees are unpaid and require immediate wire transfers. The City will never request banking information via email or ask for payment or funds through wire transfer. Please be advised that all official correspondence from the City of Arcadia is issued solely from email addresses ending in arcadiaca.gov. If you receive a suspicious email or have concerns about payment requests, please do not respond, send money, or click any links. Instead contact the applicable department and verify the request is legitimate.
