Arcadia is a charter city governed by a five-member City Council, with each member serving a four-year term. The offices of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem is filled automatically by rotation among the Councilmembers with each serving a term of approximately nine (9) and one-half (1/2) months.
The City Council serves as the legislative and policymaking body of the City. They enact all laws and direct such action as required to provide for the general welfare of the community, translating the attitude and ideas of the citizens into municipal action to the end that desired levels of service are provided as efficiently and effectively as possible.
The City Council establishes policy; adopts all Ordinances and Resolutions of the City; reviews and adopts the annual operating budget and five-year capital improvement program; and maintains communications with citizens and other government agencies to provide and obtain information necessary for the operation of the City. The City Manager is employed by the City Council to carry out its policies and to serve as executive officer.
The City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at 240 West Huntington Drive, unless otherwise noted. For the benefit of City residents, City Council meetings are broadcast live on cable television - AT&T channel 99 and Spectrum digital channel 3 - with daily reruns at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Council meeting can also be checked out from Arcadia Public Library and viewed online.
An agenda package previewing each Council meeting is available for review in the City Clerk's office, the Arcadia Public Library or via the City’s website on each Friday prior to the scheduled meeting. The Committee acts in an advisory capacity in all matters pertaining to health education and the community health fair. Council Members Cao and Wang have been selected to serve as the initial delegates to the Health Committee. Future assignments and appointments will be determined by the City Council.
