Santa Anita Barns Project

The Los Angeles Turf Club (project applicant) proposes to expand horse stabling and ancillary services on the 36-acre North Parking Lot, off of Colorado Place between Gates 5 and 6. The proposed project includes development of 9 canopy-style barn structures which would house up to 816 stalls, 68 tack, 68 feed, and 51 wash stalls, 34 office spaces, a two-story 15,502 square foot dormitory housing 38 units (grooms quarters), and a two-story 16,264 square foot building housing 64-dormitory units (2 ADA compliant), security office, café, and recreation area. Also included is a 14,450 square foot covered baler facility to consolidate stall bedding into bales for daily pickup and off-site delivery to mushroom farms in Northern California. The existing Colorado Battery- a one-story, curved, L-shaped building that has served as a ticket office since 1948- would be relocated to the southeast portion of the North Barn site.
