What is the Census?
Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau attempts to count every person in the United States. The next Census is in Spring 2020 and the survey will consist of only 9 questions. The form can be completed in 10 minutes and every household will have the option of responding online, by mail, or by phone. The online and phone survey response will be offered in 13 different languages.
Ninety-five percent of households will receive their census invitation in the mail in mid-March 2020. Be sure to submit your responses by October 31, 2020.
|Keep in Mind... A Census Worker will never ask you to provide your social security number, your bank or credit card account number, to give money or a donation, or anything on behalf of a political party.|
The Census counts ALL people who reside in the United States, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Everyone who lives with you must be counted, including children. The results of the census are used to reapportion the 435 House of Representatives seats and to redraw district lines for state legislative seats and other elected positions, including city councils and school boards.
Your responses are kept secure and safe. By law, your responses cannot be used against you and can only be used to produce statistics. The Census Bureau cannot release any identifiable information about you, your home, or your business, even to law enforcement agencies.
Shape Our Future
The 2020 Census will help decide how billions of dollars will reach our families. Your answers will help determine funding for dozens of programs that provide essential resources to Californians. Census data determines funding allocations for neighborhood improvements, schools, child care programs, road maintenance projects and social assistance programs.
