SERVICES FOR FAMILIES
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a year-round reading program that helps parents and caregivers prepare their children for school success. Research shows that children start developing reading and language skills years before they enter the classroom, and reading aloud together is one of the most effective ways to help them grow.
How It Works:
- Sign up at the Jerry Broadwell Children’s Room and receive your starter packet
- Track the books you read by coloring a book on your reading log. Repeat readings count
- After the first 100 books, return for a new log and keep going until you reach 1,000 books
- Earn small rewards at milestone points to celebrate your progress
- Complete all 1,000 books and receive a special certificate and prize
Reading aloud from birth strengthens vocabulary, builds comprehension skills, and nurtures a lifelong love of books. Every book you share brings your child closer to becoming a confident and curious reader. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is open to any child who has not yet entered kindergarten. Pick up your reading log at the Children’s Desk in the Jerry Broadwell Children’s Room.
