MISSION
It is the mission of the Arcadia Public Library to provide full and equal access to materials and services that meet the educational, informational, historical and individual interests of a diverse community.
ABOUT THE LIBRARY
The Arcadia Public Library was founded in 1913 as a branch of the Los Angeles County Library by the Cooperative Arcadians (later the Arcadia Woman’s Club). In 1920, the Library was incorporated as a City Library and housed at City Hall. The Library’s current building was originally opened in 1961 and was remodeled in 1995/1996, adding 12,000 square feet for a total size of 48,000 square feet.
The facility contains more than 200,000 items including bestsellers, graphic novels and manga, magazines, newspapers, resources for English Language Learners, large print and Braille materials, Storytime and Memory Care Kits, and multimedia. The Library also provides free Internet, WiFi, 3D printing as well as a Digital Library with access to eBooks and eAudio, streaming media, and research resources.
There are over 360,000 visitors to the Library annually. Visitors can find specialized services such as a Community Memory Lab, three Study Rooms, local history research assistance, Passport Services, and a friendly and dedicated staff that is available to assist patrons with their informational and service needs. Library staff consists of 18 full-time, 7 permanent part-time, and 18 part-time aides.
LIBRARY POLICIES
The Arcadia Public Library Policy Manual is comprised of policies that govern Library operations. The Manual is regularly reviewed by Library staff and adopted by the Library Board of Trustees.
