Update Regarding Proposed Protected Tree Removal at Santa Anita Park

At the request of Santa Anita Park, the Applicant, processing of protected tree removal permit TRH 26-11/TRE 26-09 has been placed on hold. Santa Anita Park has shared that work is already underway with the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) course design team, LA28, and construction engineers to further evaluate opportunities to address potential impacts to protected trees while preparing for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
 
Since review of the permit application has been paused, the City’s administrative review process is also on hold. At this time, there is no decision regarding the proposed tree removals pending before City staff or the Arcadia City Council. The City will continue to follow all review and public notification processes should a revised proposal be submitted. If a revised permit application is submitted, the public notification process will begin again to allow the community to review and provide input on the revised plans. Updates and relevant information will be made available on the project webpage, where interested parties can subscribe to project updates:  www.ArcadiaCA.gov/oaktreesatccc.

Protected Healthy Tree Removal Permit No. TRH 26-11 and Protected Tree Encroachment Permit No. TRE 26-09
The request is to remove 34 protected Oak trees associated with LA28 Cross Country Course, the planting of 34 new trees, and allow the proposed improvements and course to encroach within 45 Oak Trees. 

Notice of Pending Decision - No decision regarding the proposed project will be made prior to the Community Meeting.

Upcoming Community Meeting - August 27, 2026

In partnership with Santa Anita Park and the LA28 Team, the City is providing the community with an opportunity to learn more about the proposed project. This meeting will provide an opportunity to share the proposed project with a broader community, as comments and questions have been received from residents beyond the Arcadia area.
