Residential Trash Collection

The City contracts with Waste Management Inc. for residential and multi-family trash and recycling collection services.  Residential trash is collected every Wednesday

If a holiday falls on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, trash pick-up will occur on Thursday.  To find out more about your trash service contact Waste Management at (800) 266-7551.

Backyard Service & Senior Citizen Discount Programs

Backyard service is provided FREE for residents with a physical hardship.  Additionally, Arcadia residents over the age of 62 qualify for a senior citizen discount. 

Bulky Item Program

Waste Management offers four free bulky item pickups per calendar year for each single-family residential account and two free bulky item pickups per calendar year for each multi-family residential account.

Commercial and Multi-Family Mandatory Recycling

Assembly Bill 341 requires recycling services for businesses, public entities, and multi-family residential dwellings of five or more units that generate four or more cubic yards of commercial solid waste per week. The City has three permitted commercial haulers to assist with your refuse and recycling needs. Commercial customers are eligible to receive recycling containers upon request at no additional costs.  Contact the following list of commercial haulers for pricing and service information:

Mandatory Organics Recycling

Effective April 1, 2016, Assembly Bill 1826 requires organics recycling services for certain commercial properties and multi-family dwellings of five or more units that generate large quantities of waste.  (Note: multi-family dwellings are not required to arrange for source separated food waste collection under this law.)  

Key Dates:
April 1, 2016: Businesses that generate eight cubic yards of organic waste per week must arrange for organic waste recycling services.

January 1, 2017: Businesses that generate four cubic yards of organic waste per week must arrange for organic waste recycling services.

January 1, 2019: Businesses that generate four cubic yards or more of commercial solid waste per week shall arrange for organic waste recycling services.

January 1, 2020: CalRecycle must determine if organics waste disposal has been reduced by at least 50%. If it has not, CalRecycle is authorized to reduce the threshold for compliance to two cubic yards per week of total solid waste.
