WHAT IS THE PAY TO STAY PROGRAM? The Pay-to-Stay Program provides an alternative to serving time in the county jail following a criminal conviction. With approval from the sentencing court, your time can be served in the safe, clean, and secure environment of the Arcadia Police Department Jail.
WHAT DOES IT COST? There is a non-refundable application fee of $50. Each day costs $100. All fees are payable in advance to your stay.
HOW IS MY TIME CALCULATED? Inmates serve their time on consecutive days, or at the direction of the court, sentences may be broken up in increments of time, e.g., weekends only. A twenty-four (24) hour period constitutes one (1) day.
HOW LONG CAN I STAY IN THE ARCADIA JAIL? You may serve your entire sentence at the Arcadia Jail but no more than four (4) consecutive days at a time. After a three (3) day break you may serve another four days and so on. Most participants find it convenient to serve their time in 2-day increments on weekends.
WILL I BE HOUSED WITH OTHER INMATES? Pay-to-Stay Inmates are housed separate from pre-sentenced inmates. You may be housed with other Pay-to-Stay inmates.
WHAT PROPERTY MAY I BRING WITH ME? Bring as few items as possible. Items not listed will be taken from you during your stay. You will need to bring photo identification, a change of undergarments (e.g. T-shirt, underwear and socks) for every day you serve. You may also bring prescription glasses, shower shoes, and one soft-bound book. No belts or shoestrings. Toiletry items will be provided to you. Smoking is not permitted.
CAN I BRING MEDICATIONS? No. The Arcadia Police Department Jail cannot accommodate persons with medical problems requiring the administration of medications. Persons requiring medications will not be accepted into this program. A recent tuberculosis (TB) screening with a negative result is required.
ARE VISITORS ALLOWED? Pay-to-Stay Inmates are allowed one visit for each two days stayed. Visitation is at the discretion of the jail staff. Visiting hours are Monday to Friday 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Weekends and holidays 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? The Arcadia Police Department Jail is located at 250 W. Huntington Drive Arcadia, CA 91007 – (626) 574-5151.
IS PARKING AVAILABLE? You are encouraged to have someone drop you off during your stay. However, parking is available in the Police Department parking lot with a temporary parking pass issued by the program administrator.
HOW DO I ARRANGE TO SERVE MY TIME AT THE ARCADIA CITY JAIL? During your sentencing proceedings ask the court to allow you to serve your sentence in the Arcadia City Jail. You will also need to ask for a court commitment order, which states your name, the charge and the sentence (time) to be served. Insure the court indicates specific information on the court commitment order, to include:
- That your time may be served at the Arcadia City Jail.
- That your sentence may be served in separate blocks of time, e.g., weekends.
- Any variation to a good time/work time credit.
Upon successful completion of the program, the court will be notified, in writing that you have completed the provisions of the sentence.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M ELIGIBLE? The Pay-to-Stay Program accepts most convicted misdemeanants and some felonies. However, persons who have committed offenses against peace officers, violent crimes, sex crimes, or certain narcotic related offences may not be accepted in the program. Contact the Pay-to-Stay Program Administrator – see below.
