Storytimes

Storytimes are a wonderful way to introduce little ones to the lifelong love of reading, the enjoyment of books, and the fun of visiting their local library.  The Arcadia Public Library offers storytimes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.  For more information about each, please see the descriptions below.

Registration is required to take part in the fall, winter, and spring storytime sessions.  No reservations are needed for storytimes during the summer months. View the current schedule and registration handout to learn more about storytime programs.

Baby Tales is designed for babies ages 4-23 months and their caregivers.   This interactive program includes simple stories, songs, rhymes, flannel boards, and fingerplays.   Baby Tales is a fun way to introduce the love of reading to our newest patrons.  It is also a learning experience for caregivers who can impart the importance of reading in the home.   Spaces are limited so be sure to register early.

Toddler Time is designed for children ages 19 to 47 months and a participating adult.  Stories, songs, finger plays, flannel boards, and activities make this sharing time between adult and child a fun way to become familiar with the Library. Spaces are limited so be sure to register early.

Preschool Storytime is designed specifically for children ages 4 to 7 years of age.  Each week, staff shares their love of books and reinforces early literacy skills through stories, songs, fingerplays and a special craft.  Spaces are limited so be sure to register early.  Please make prior childcare arrangements for younger and older siblings not registered for this program.

Barks & Books Collage

Barks and Books

Kindergarteners through 5th graders are invited to drop in and read a good book to a specially trained therapy dog. There is Belle, a Great Mountain Pyrenees, and her buddy Lois. Belle loves to hear good stories…and of course to be petted!

Please join us on the 1st Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m. The program does not take place during the month of August.

Barks and Books is made possible by the generous time and
efforts of volunteers from the Pasadena Humane Society.

Book Buddies

Children are paired with teenage volunteers for a thirty-minute one-on-one read-aloud session.  The program is designed to provide positive reading role models and enriching reading experiences for children ages 4 to 8 years.   Registration is required for Book Buddies and will be done on a month-by-month basis from October through May.
