Resolution No. 7215 - Declaring the Official Results of the All Mail Ballot General Municipal Election on April 10, 2018

DEADLINE TO RETURN BALLOTS

The deadline to return ballots in person at the designated drop off location (Arcadia City Hall, City Clerk’s office) is 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, Election Day.  After that time, NO hand-delivered ballots will be accepted. 

Ballots postmarked on or before Tuesday, April 10, and received via postal service on or before, Friday, April 13, will be part of the second ballot count process. 

No postage necessary for Ballots placed in the mail.

BALLOTS WERE PLACED IN THE MAIL ON MARCH 12, 2018                                FOR DISTRICTS 2 AND 5

On March 12, 2018, ballots for Districts 2 and 5 were placed in the mail.  Ballots may be returned by mail (no postage required), or in person at the City Clerk’s Office, 240 W. Huntington Drive, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on alternate Fridays, and on Election Day, Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Please note March 26, 2018, is the last day to register to vote for the Arcadia All-Mail Ballot General Municipal Election.

ALL-MAIL BALLOT GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION CANCELLED FOR ELECTORAL DISTRICT NO. 3 

On January 25, 2018, the Arcadia City Council adopted Resolution No. 7201, appointing Sho Tay to the City Council to represent Electoral District No. 3 for a period of four (4) years and seven (7) months, cancelling the April 10, 2018, All Mail Ballot General Municipal Election for City Council Member from Electoral District No. 3, pursuant to California Elections Code Section 10229. 

According to Elections Code Section 10229, if by the statutory nomination filing deadline (January 12, 2018), there are not more candidates than offices to be elected in any legislative district, and if there are also no Citywide offices or measures on the ballot, then the Elections Official shall certify these facts to the City Council, publish a notice of the same, and after the fifth day after such publication, the City Council may take one of three courses of action: 

  • The City Council may appoint to the office the person who has been nominated;
  • The City Council may appoint to the office any eligible voter if no one has been appointed (not applicable here); or
  • The City Council may determine to hold the election if either no one or only one person has been nominated. 

The Elections Official provided the required certification and the Arcadia City Council voted to appoint incumbent Sho Tay, cancelling the All-Mail Ballot General Municipal Election on April 10, 2018, in Electoral District No. 3.

QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR THE ALL MAIL BALLOT GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION  FOR DISTRICTS 2 AND 5

The City of Arcadia will be conducting an All Mail Ballot General Municipal Election to elect two Members of the City Council to a full term of four years for Districts 2 and 5. 

The Candidate’s Filing Period closed at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018. The Elections Official hereby announces the following five persons are Qualified Candidates for Member of City Council to be elected by the voters of the City of Arcadia in Districts 2 and 5 at the 2018 General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018:

To participate in the April 10, 2018, election, you must be an Arcadia resident and a registered voter. The last day to register to vote in this election is Monday, March 26, 2018.  Voter registration information can be obtained by visiting the County Registrar Recorder website at www.lavote.net or by picking up a voter registration form at the City Clerk's office, 240 W.
