Tom was born in 1951 in Upland, California, and attended local public schools before moving on to Damien High School in LaVerne. Tom attended Loyola Marymount University, graduating in 1973 with a degree in Business Administration. He then attended Loyola Law School and received his law degree in 1977. Tom’s specialty was representing the catastrophically injured and wrongful death. Tom retired in 2012, but remains a licensed attorney.
Tom married Jerilyn ("Jeri") in 1978 and they moved to Arcadia in 1985 to raise their family. Tom's many volunteer community activities and charitable boards can be viewed at his website: www.Beck4council.com.
Tom's four children attended Highland Oaks and Foothill Middle School. Ryan, a medical doctor, is married and currently a Chief Resident in Radiology at Emory Medical Center in Atlanta. Alison is a Los Angeles-area magazine/catalog stylist. Jenifer Sojka is a Special Education teacher in Columbus, Ohio. Her husband John received his M.D. degree from Ohio State University Medical School in May 2016. He is in a General Surgery residency. Sean is a recent graduate of Loyola Marymount University. He is in management at Dish Network Corp. in Los Angeles.
Tom was a first-time candidate for the Arcadia City Council in April 2014 and was elected in that election. 2016-2017 was his first term as Mayor. His hobbies include hiking, snow skiing, travel, and spending time in Cambria.
