2025 Community Cleanup Day: Saturday, November 1st
Come help beautify the Arcadia Transit Plaza on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 8:30am to 11am. Volunteers will help sand and stain plaza benches, plant shrubs and flowers in garden beds, spread mulch, and clean the brickwork of the plaza. Outdoor gloves, tools, and refreshments will be provided for those who participate. All volunteers need to sign-up in advance and submit a waiver: 2025 Community Cleanup Day.
This year's community cleanup day will be dedicated in memory of Dorothy Denne, longtime Arcadia resident and volunteer with the Arcadia Police Department. Dorothy was also a former member of the Arcadia Library Board and a columnist for the Arcadia Weekly. In recent years, she helped establish the Arcadia Police Foundation to help with fundraising for its K-9 program. She was a passionate animal lover and steadfast supporter of Pasadena Humane.
The History of Community Cleanup Day
At the June 15, 2021, City Council meeting, the City Council voted for an annual citywide Community Cleanup Day to take place on the first Saturday in November in dedication of a person in the community who has devoted their time and service to the City. The City Council appointed the Arcadia Beautiful Commission to host the event.
The first annual Community Cleanup Day took place on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Wilderness Park (2240 Highland Oaks Drive). Volunteers assisted with removing trash and debris, making paths more walkable, taming brush, and cleaning up tables and benches.
Inaugural Community Cleanup Day Dedicated to Jim Barrows
Jim Barrows served as Arcadia’s City Clerk from 2004 through 2012. For decades he was a very active volunteer in Arcadia. He attended many Arcadia events and selflessly devoted his time and talents to help others. You could always find Jim Barrows helping out at an elementary school family fun night or a high school music camp. He also assisted in patrolling neighborhoods. There wasn’t anything Jim Barrows would not do to help out. Even when Jim Barrows and his wife moved from the City of Arcadia, he still managed to help in the snack shack at Arcadia High football games and assisted with grad night, the Festival of Bands, Derby Day, and Breeders Cup. To commemorate Jim Barrows, the First Annual Community Cleanup Day was dedicated to his service and devotion to the City.
Each year, the Arcadia Beautiful Commission (ABC) evaluates properties in Arcadia that are beautifully decorated for the holiday season. The ABC canvasses the entire community in an effort to identify homes that are decorated in the most festive and creative way for the holidays.
To be considered for a Holiday Award, residents must have their decorations up and lights on by December 2 (until 10:00 p.m.). If you want to nominate a neighbor's property (residence or business), or even your own, submissions listing the property address can be emailed to CityManager@ArcadiaCA.gov.
