Join Jill Morganelli, the Arboretum’s Horticultural Supervisor, on tours through gardens that demonstrate responsible stewardship for our Southern California landscapes while providing beauty and seasonal interest.
Each session will highlight water-maximizing garden construction, installation and site-specific recommendations for irrigation systems, and water-savvy landscape horticulture selections from Australia, South Africa, California natives, as well as plants from our water conservation, desert, and many specialty gardens. Design technique, stewardship and habitat building are also discussed.
The New California Landscape focuses on accurate irrigation during the heat, creating green backbones in the garden, colorful summer trees and shrubs, summer meadow composition and revisiting our Rose Garden renovation progress. Special emphasis and in-depth discussion will highlight use of California native plants in the summer landscape. The tour will be travelling to the Herb Garden, Roots & Shoots Butterfly Hub, Rose Garden and Australian Garden. If you need special assistance for transport please let Arboretum staff know when you register for the class at (626) 821-4623. It’s very warm outside and the tour will involve plenty of walking, so be prepared: wear hats that provide shade and comfortable shoes, bring water, and don’t forget the sunscreen.
Classes meet in either the Palm or Bamboo Room near the entrance, and are held outdoors in all weather. For more information, call (626) 821-4623.
